Introducing Abby...

Abby also arrived on January 22nd.  She was relinquished by her family.

Abby is a lovely, curious, playful (but not wild) young lady who I think is about a year old.

Interested in meeting Abby?  She's waiting for you at the shelter in Burien.  Please contact them through their Petfinder page.

Introducing Sheila, Maple, & Star

Kitties go out, kitties come in...

Was so excited last week...  Four beautiful kitties were adopted in just two days...  And then within less than 18 hours, SEVEN more came in...

Sheila, Maple, & Star are three of that seven.  They were abandoned on the porch of the shelter on the morning of the 22nd. (Won't editorialize on that right now...) I think they must be littermates.  Sheila and Maple are nearly identical tabbies and Star is a sleek and lovely black kitty.  (Follow this link and this link to see my rantings on adoption and black kitties.)  I think the kitties are about a year old and are long, lean, and lovely...

They're all ready for adoption now.  Won't you come meet them and give them a chance to enrich your life??

And then there were none... Shelby adopted!!!

Just as we thought the day would end with one baby left at the shelter...

Shelby got adopted!!!

My daughter and I are thrilled, but also wish we could see her once again...  <g>

If you're interested in any of the other fabulous kitties at BACC, please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

And... Porsche is adopted!!

Quick as a wink, those beautiful babies are being adopted!!!

Little Porsche has also been adopted...  I'll bet Shelby will find her family soon, too!

If you're interested in her or any of the other fabulous kitties at BACC, please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

Mercedes is adopted!!!

Well, no surprise...  One of the babies has been adopted!

Little Mercedes has joined her family today...

Congratulations Mercedes!!!

Guest Post: Doggies love families too!!

New dog owner Mona says...

I’d like you to meet me and my Shadow! When I first saw the classified ad with Shadow’s picture my heart literally skipped a beat! The Burien Animal Care & Control Center had nicknamed him Juneau, but after spending time with him I realized his real name is Shadow. His cute face caught my eye, but also my father was from Alaska ~ so his name also grabbed my attention. Spending five minutes with his energetic bubbly personality had me convinced we were destined to live together.

While I am a dog lover, it was not until driving to meet Shadow that I realized I’d never had a dog of my very own! There have been dogs purchased for kids or grandkids that eventually would have long term stays with us, but never a dog to call mine. Since I am about to graduate the UW it is almost fitting that I leave with a degree and a Husky mix dog! I absolutely am thrilled to have adopted him, he is curious, full of energy, and as sweet as any dog I’ve ever met.

I appreciate all the people who work to make this planet a better place for both two legged and four legged beings! And if you are considering becoming a pet owner please take the time to see one of the wonderful pets available for adoption first!

Best,

Mona, Shadow’s human in training

Introducing S'mores...

Seems that I hadn't introduced S'mores yet...

S'mores is a gorgeous adult female who is very shy.  Between that and her white fur, it's been hard to get a good photo of her.  (Her sister Luna, adopted at the end of September, was the same way.)

Recently, though, S'mores was transferred to the Colony Room at the shelter.  And the change has done her a world of good.  She's much less shy, and has really come out of her shell.  I suspect that S'mores will always be a quiet kitty, but she'll make a calm and loving family a fabulous & stunning companion.

Do you want to meet the lovely S'mores?  Please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

New Picture of Ebony

My fantastic niece, the skilled photographer at the age of nine, took another wonderful kitty photo today.  Ebony, an all-black kitty, whose beauty is hard to capture on "film", really IS this gorgeous...

Little miss Ebony is clearly feeling the loss of her favorite playmates, Jeremiah, Laverne, and Domino...  As a result, she's cuddling up to Olive and seeking even more human attention.  She's fun & playful as well as sweet & cuddly.

Watching and playing with her today, it became clear to me that Ebony will do fantastically in a multi-cat household with people who adore her.  This kitty loves other cats and humans!!

She's ready for a family of her own.  Want to meet her?  You'll be glad you did!!!

New Babies: Introducing Shelby, Mercedes, & Porsche...

Shelby

My daughter and I adore all three kitties, of course, but we've completely fallen for Shelby.  Maybe even as much as we fell for Domino.

But, as I say...  "We love her so much that we're determined to find a family for her."  Won't be hard.  These babies are delightful.  And kitten season hasn't really started yet.  Not many babies around this time of year.  If these little gals are still in the shelter on Tuesday, I'll be really suprised...

Four out, SEVEN in...

Four fabulous kitties were adopted last week.

Then, in less than 18 hours, seven new came...  All female.  Four young adults, two tabby, two black, and three six-week-old kittens.

Adorable, each and every one.

Will post details when I get a chance.  In the meantime you can see the babies posted on Petfinder.  The older girls won't be available for a day or two.

Zigfried is adopted!!

It's been a busy week at BACC.  Ziggy was adopted this morning!!

Ziggy's a big, sweet, cuddly boy that will surely make his new family so happy.

Congratulations Ziggy!!!!

Don't worry...  You haven't lost your chance.  There still are some fantastic cats that BACC has listed at Petfinder!

Looking for Foster Families...

Some kitties ought to stay in the shelter, where they're available to meet & greet potential families.  Some kitties, however, need a little extra TLC or a different environment in order to get ready for adoption.

There are three lovely adult kitties at the shelter that are particularly shy.  I wonder if a loving foster home would be a great idea for any of them.  Autumn, in particular, seems to need patient, gentle, and persistent coaxing out of her shell.  Marshmallow & S'mores also might benefit from some time in a home of cat lovers prior to adoption.

Sweet shy kitties: Autumn, S'mores, Ligera, Shyla, & Marshmallow

I asked the other day if it would be okay to recruit a small team of folks willing to help out in this way.  And was given permission to do that.  Before long, the weather will be warming up and the shelter will start to fill up...  It's time to help these sweet kitties get ready to join their forever families!!

If you're interested in learning more about fostering through BACC or meeting our shy kitties, please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

A big day of adoptions!!!

Yippee!!!!

Sweet Jeremiah, Princess Missy, and Lovely Mocha were all adopted today!!

And I hadn't even managed to post about Missy yet...  Just so you know, she's delightfully naughty.  She's meant to be a princess ruling the roost.

Go well, sweet Jeremiah!!

Keep them in line, Princess Missy!
Take good care of your new family, Mocha!

Three wonderful kitties have gone to their own forever homes, but there are more waiting for you!!  If you or someone you know is ready to adopt a wonderful cat, be sure to visit the other fabulous cats that BACC has listed at Petfinder!

A New, Sweet Picture of Shyla & Ligera

My 9-year-old surrogate niece took this fabulous photo yesterday...

Ligera is behind on the left and Shyla is in front on the right.

After spending time with four young visitors yesterday, the sweet kitties settled down for a cuddle with each other on top of a "kitty tree".  Quite to the delight of their visitors, these kitties seem to relax quite well among kids...

Someday soon, the right family will find these girls (hopefully together) and will lovingly welcome them into a home of their own.  What a lucky family that will be!!!

Want to meet them?  They're in Burien at the shelter...  See their Petfinder page for details!

Introducing Mocha...

There's a new kitty in the family!!  Meet Mocha, a GORGEOUS kitty, who I'm told is probably a Ragdoll.  I looked online and think she's a chocolate point ragdoll.  Fancy name for a little gal, huh?

These first two photos are a bit out of focus, but they show her stunning blue eyes pretty well.

Mocha is young, mellow, sweet, and downright fabulous.  That's not mentioning, of course, her out-of-this world beauty, luscious fur, amazing eyes...

Something tells me that we won't get a chance to get to know this little gal very well.  Someone's going to snatch her up and take her home.

If you're interested in meeting Mocha, please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

New picture of Marshmallow

Here's a new pic of sweet Mellow.  My fantabulous niece took this gorgeous photo today while we were spending time cleaning and cuddling at the shelter.

If you're interested in meeting Marshmallow, please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

Introducing Marshmallow...

Beautiful Marshmallow is another shy kitty who needs a loving home.

Sweet Marshmallow (aka "Mellow") has the kind of story that makes gals like me mad and sad.  Someone brought her in to the shelter because her neighbors left Mellow behind when they moved.  Things can be hard sometimes, no doubt, but there's no excuse for abandonment...

In any case, as you can see from the picture below, Marshmallow really likes a good scratch behind the ears.  She loves to be petted & cuddled also, but is still a bit unsure.  She needs a family that will give her all the unconditional love she deserves...

Marshmallow says: "What do you say?  Want to come meet me?

Want to meet darling Marshmallow?  She's in Burien at the shelter...  See their Petfinder page for details!

Introducing Shyla & Ligera...

Introducing Shyla & Ligera...  They're gorgeous, soft and furry little darlings, probably nearing 6 months old.

First here's Shyla.  Can you guess how she got her name?

This is darling Ligera.

These little girls were trapped near Sea-Tac airport and brought in to the shelter.  As formerly feral kitties, they're still quite shy, but feeling more and more comfortable around people all the time.  Shyla was brought in first, and so she's further along in this.

Both Shyla and Ligera will quietly tolerate being held, but will also hide.  They both seem to be quite a bit more comfortable with children, delighting the young visitors to the shelter.

These girls will surely make a fantastic addition to the right family!  Want to meet them?  They're in Burien at the shelter...  See their Petfinder page for details!

Introducing Athena...

Athena, a clearly tough little girl, has joined the kitty colony at BACC.

She was left at a local vet with a head injury unknown origin.  (I think it must have been a bite from a big dog or other large animal, as she's got wounds on the top of her head on both sides.)

You'd think that this little gal would be scared and unfriendly given her recent history.  But the reality is that she's a sweet and social and a delight to be around.  Her fur is soft and lovely, a sensory delight!

Can you see the freckles on her cute little nose??

I'm hoping that a family will want to adopt her soon and commit to ensuring that her healing continues.  She's been doing great and wants a family to fuss over her!!

Want to meet fabulous Athena?  She's in Burien at the shelter...  See their Petfinder page for details!

Shirley is adopted!!!

These wonderful kitties are getting noticed!!  Yippeee!!

Shirley now has a home of her home too.

Another kitty to miss...  But another kitty with a family of her own.

A wonderful thing...

Lila is adopted!!!

Beautiful Lila, a quiet and calm, VERY photogenic girl has been adopted this afternoon!  Such good news!!  She's been waiting a long time.

Go well, beautiful girl!!!  (And if Lila's new family sees this, please send photos to BACC.  I'd love to post photos of her at home on this blog!)

Laverne is adopted!!!

Sweet Laverne was adopted last night!!!

Now we just need to find a family for her fabulous sister Shirley...

More about Shirley later...  Found out that she's got the "Munchkin gene".  Once I found out and took a close look, it was one big "duh" moment...  The little sweetie's got the shortest legs I've ever seen on a cat.  Will post other pictures when I can get a chance.  In the meantime, she's without her sister...  Let's get her a home of her own!!!

Domino's In the House!!

Okay, not anymore...  But Domino was our first, very-short-term foster kitty on Saturday night.  She became the second official "Burien Kitty in Ballard".

Her new family is coming to get her on Tuesday (yippee!!) so we stopped by the shelter on Saturday for a last visit.  My daughter and I had both fallen for Domino, so we really wanted to say goodbye.  When we arrived she had just finished her spay surgery.  I got to hold her while she woke up, which was a delight.  As I cuddled with her, the overprotective Mama in me decided that I wanted to bring her home for the night to keep an eye on her.  Of course, that was completely unnecessary, but I was told that it would be okay.

So, we got a short & special time with sweet Domino.  Our big cat Josie ignored her, Poonai was very interested and only a little bit annoyed, and the rest of the family was overjoyed.  My daughter and her friend cleaned the "kitty nursery" (bathroom) until it was sparkling and made an adorable nest for the little darling.

Again and again we'd say, "Domino is going to make her family so happy!"  We were smitten.  Admittedly, it was a bit difficult to say goodbye on Sunday, but we managed.  It was great practice for us all for fostering other kitties...

Domino's not the only fabulous kitty in Burien (& Ballard!)  If you're interested in a cat, please visit See the BACC Petfinder page for details!
