Introducing Katy & her Kittens...

Katy & her babes, taken Monday, 2/21/11

We, lucky family that we are, have met out next set of foster kittens...  (And these little ones come with a really great accessory, their own mom!)  Assuming Katy and our older kitty Josie don't growl at each other through the door and stress each other out, it's going to be an awful lot easier to have a mama kitty in the house.  And it doesn't hurt one bit that Katy is fabulous!!  She's such a sweet gal who *loves* to be petted!

Katy arrived at the shelter when her babies were about 5 days old.  There were five, but the littlest (who we named Moose) didn't make it.  Her remaining darlings are a tabby girl - Maddie, a black & white boy - Milo, a black & white girl - Mia, and a black girl - Miranda.

The little darling's eyes have opened and they're able to wriggle about a bit...  When they get a little stronger, we'll be bringing the lot of them home with us.  They're growing quickly, almost as heavy as little Amber and Goldie were when we first met them at about 4-5 weeks.

Now, let's get down to the introductions... (Not everybody had eyes open when these pictures were taken Wednesday evening.)

Milo

Mia

Miranda

And a little bit o' video...  This is Maddie and Mia (although I mistakenly say "Milo" in the video).

As you can imagine, these babies aren't yet ready for adoption.  At this moment, there are six fantastic kitties waiting for their forever families.  (And surely more to come soon!)  If you're like the pleasure of meeting them, please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

Note: You might notice in some of the pictures that Amber's left eye is swollen.  It seems that the little gals had a wrestling accident on Friday night and little Amber's eyeball was scratched.  She's on antibiotics to combat infection and something else to help with the swelling.

Kitten Update

Amber and Goldie are doing fabulously, but they're not with us anymore.  We miss them a lot.

Sleepy girls on Sunday evening

All last week, despite being playful and relatively active, the little gals were not gaining weight and having a lot of trouble with diarrhea.  I was reassured that I was doing a good job with them, but by Monday when they'd finally started gaining weight but still struggling with "the runs", I asked their other foster Mama to take them back.  She's a certified vet tech and is really experienced with little ones.  I wanted to be completely sure that they were getting the best care possible so that they could join their new family this weekend as planned.

And, sure enough, I think it was the best choice.  We got to see them yesterday and, with their systems are still a bit out of whack, they're growing and happy and playing with their sister Cheeto.  Below you'll see a "kitten pile" in my arms of four fantastic kittens.

Wednesday evening: Amber on left, Cheeto in front on right, Goldie just behind her, and little Rusty in back
It was wonderful to have them in my arms again.  Those babies are awfully special!  We met Cheeto for the first time, and she's just as delightful and loving as her sisters.  Their new family is going to be so happy with them!!!

I'll put up another post with lots of adorable kitten pictures and a video clip or two...

Maple, Autumn, & Sheila Adopted!!!

What a wonderful day for kitties!!!

Some very dear friends of our family adopted darling Maple today.

Maple will, no doubt, have lots of fun with her new human sister, who has renamed her "Jewels".  We feel awfully lucky that we'll get to visit her soon.

Other fantastic news is that AUTUMN was also adopted!!!

Autumn is an extremely shy and very sweet gal.  She was adopted by someone who seems to be a terrific fit for her!  I've done a lot of worrying about Autumn...  What a wonderful blessing!!

And also...  Sheila was adopted on Saturday!  A super-nice lady was sent on a kitty-adoption-mission by her elderly parents.  She'd hoped to adopt Olive, but found that she'd already been adopted.  So, she spent quite a bit of time getting to know that fabulous felines at BACC and decided that Sheila was the perfect match!  Sheila is recovering from her spay surgery and will join her new family soon!  Yippee!!!

Thankfully, the BACC kitty colony is getting smaller and smaller before kitten season begins.  But there are still six fantastic adoptable kitties waiting to meet you!!  Please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

New Baby Pictures

I've been taking lots of pictures of teeny-tiny Amber and Goldie, but I've been terrible about posting them...

First I'll post a couple of pictures taken Wednesday on the way home after a visit with Dr. Leslie.

In this photo, Goldie is "hugging" Amber

The next photos were taken about 7:00 this morning...

Amber: "I love my foster sister!"

Amber: "Want to play?"

These beautiful babies have a family waiting for them, but never fear!  Kitten season is on its way!!  And right this very minute, nine fantastic felines are at the shelter waiting for a chance to meet you!!  Please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

Athena Update

Please excuse the cage bars, she just looked so cute!!

Lovely Athena came to BACC with a pair of wounds on her head.  At the time, I thought her wounds were a bit too alarming to post pictures.  Truth is, though, they weren't so bad.  It's just hard to see an animal with wounds at all...

One thing that struck me about Athena was the the moment I met her she started engaging me in cuddles.  I was stunned that a kitty who'd clearly been through a lot was so open, friendly and loving.

But, that's Athena...

Athena did well in the kitty colonies, but right now she's in a kitty condo in the front lobby.  She's calm, beautiful, and sweet, a perfect "welcome wagon".

Athena's injuries have healed well and the fur on her face and head is growing back nicely.  Her true beauty is coming through.

Please take a look at this gorgeous girl!

Yeah, I know... She looks cranky.  But I think "sleepy" was really more like it...  Can you see the freckles on her nose??  Adorable!!

Don't you just want to run your fingers through her luscious fur??

Murphy Found a Home!

A couple of weeks ago I posted information about lovely kitty named Murphy who needed a home.  He was the kitty of the friend of a friend of a friend who had lost his job and had to give up his kitty.

Well, the great news is that Murphy has a home!!!

Congratulations, Murphy!  Congratulations to Murphy's new family!  And Congratulations to Murphy's human who had to let him go...

Breaking News: Emily Just Got Adopted!!!

Great news!!!

Sweet little Emily was just adopted!!

We're down to single digits!!!  Only 9 kitties available for adoption at BACC!!  Of course, for folks who want to meet a bunch of kitties when looking for a new family member, this may not be the best news...  That's reasonable, of course...  When I was looking for a kitten for our family, the words, "We have LOTS of kittens!" was music to my ears...  However, for those of us who are desperate to find perfect forever families for our little charges, this is great news!!!

Any chance you want to me our "Neat Nine"?  (Can you tell I couldn't think of a synonym for 'fantastic' starting with "N"?)  Please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.  There are some truly fabulous felines waiting to meet you...

Updated Poonai Pic

Considering our delightful kitten Poonai is the original inspiration for this blog, I thought I'd post an updated picture of her, the original Burien Kitty in Ballard.

This was taken this past Sunday as she was waking from a slumber on our bed.

She's growing, growing, growing!!  She's about 6 pounds and healing very well from her spay surgery about 3 weeks ago.

I may have claimed publicly that Olive is the "World's Greatest Cat", but that was a bit of an exaggeration...  She's really the SECOND World's Greatest Cat...  Poonai is too fabulous for words!  Olive, was, however, the "World's Greatest Adoptable Cat".  I think Peter may have earned that title now...  Gonna' have to find that terrific boy a family soon!!

As always, there are some super-duper terrific kitties waiting to meet you at BACC!!!  Please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

Abby/Sasha Update

I met the woman who adopted Abby recently.  She is now called Sasha, a name to which she comes when called!

Sasha is delighted in  her new, cat-free home.  She's claimed her new mom's pillow as her bed, and has taught her family to leave a closet door open so she has a place to retreat when she tires of playing with her human brothers.

Congratulations to both Abby/Sasha and her family.  It sounds like a perfect match!!

Introducing Rose...

Rose arrived at BACC on Valentine's Day.

A good samaritan had been feeding her, but wasn't able to keep her and so brought her in to give her a chance at a permanent family.  She's about 3 to 5 years old and a lynx point siamese.

Rose is shy at first glance, but once she realizes that you'r about to give her a nice rub, she's friendly as can be.

Rose is going to make someone very happy.

Are you interested in meeting Rose?  Please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

Jazzy adopted!!!

No surprise, sweet Jazzy had quite a few inquiries, and yesterday she was adopted!!!

Last time I saw her she was "yelling" for attention, and rubbing and purring delightedly when she got it...

I'm so glad she's got her own family to devote full-time loving to this great little gal!!

There are kitties still waiting at BACC.  Please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

Dudley adopted!!

Sweet Dudley joined his new family yesterday!!!

What a great addition he's going to make to his family!!!

Kitties are still waiting at BACC.  Please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

Olive at home...

I received an update from Olive's new family.

**********

As you know, we adopted Olive this weekend.  She has made the transition to our home without any problems.  She and the dog get along just fine.  In fact, she was eating some of the dog's dry food and all the dog did was look at me hoping I would do something.  It was funny.
She has found many places to sleep around the house and is quite content to sit in our laps  and knead with her paws.  She has a strong headbutt too if she feels she needs to get your attention when you are not petting her enough.
She is absolutely fascinated with the sliding glass door.  She will sit for hours watching the backyard.  Maybe in a week or so we will let her out for a supervised field trip to the great outdoors.

**********

It's so great...  Olive finally has what she's been waiting for: a family of her own that appreciates her fabulousness.  I predict that she and the dog will be great friends for years to come.

Do you think that your family might just be the happy ending for one of our fantastic felines?  Please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page and plan a visit today!  Your new family member may be waiting for you!!

Abby Adopted!!!

Abby got her very own Valentine yesterday!

Adorable Abby, a curious and sweet little girl who loves people but *not* other cats, was adopted yesterday...

Congratulations wonderful girl!!!

Never fear, there are still some really fantastic kitties still waiting at BACC.  Please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

More on Peter...

Now that Olive's been adopted, Peter's my next "project".  He's the second-most under-appreciated, yet incredibly fantastic cat at BACC.

Here's a recent picture...

Peter has free reign in the smaller of two kitty colony rooms at the shelter.  He gets along well with the other kitties and is simply a "gentleman".  Peter's favorite things are cuddles and food.  In fact, he's been doing so well eating more than his fair share of the community bowl that he's gotten a little on the chunky side lately.  He may need to be isolated during mealtimes to take care of that problem.

Other than a healthy appetite, the darling boy has no faults whatsoever!  He's lived peacefully with several domineering females, not letting them bully him, but putting up with them patiently.

Peter loves to look through the glass doors of the colony rooms and watch the activity of the people outside.  Sometimes he'll call out, telling us to come in and visit.  And when we obey, we're rewarded with a leg rub and cuddles.

Peter's another kitty that is simply the definition of fantastic cat...  He's personable, soft, cuddly, gorgeous, patient, loving, and fairly independent.

Just like Olive, people love Peter, but then adopt other cats.  He's not flashy, but he's a solid, fantastic cat.

Are you interested in meeting this wonderful boy?  I hope so!!  You can contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

We went to the shelter on Saturday to say goodbye to Olive and for a kitten checkup.

While we were there, I got a couple of new photos of gorgeous Dudley and Emily.

What great cats!!!!!

Fantastic News!!!!! OLIVE was adopted!!!!

Olive has been adopted!!!

I posted the following advertisement on the staff classifieds at my work last week:

*******

I volunteer for a small local animal shelter and we have “THE World’s Greatest Cat” available for adoption.
Olive has been with us since late July 2010, nearly as long as the shelter has been open.  And there’s no good reason for that!!  She is, after all, the WORLD’S Greatest Cat!!
No kidding.  Olive is a beautiful, soft, loving, and sweet tabby.  She’s about 1.5 years old.  She’s still playful, but quite mellow and undemanding.  She does incredibly well with other cats, she’s patient and loving with children (though we haven’t tested her with wild little ones), and a delightful companion to adults.  Olive loves attention, but isn’t desperate for it.
She’s been called a “good, solid cat”, meaning that she demonstrates all the best qualities of a cat: a sweet companion, fairly independent and undemanding, soft and cuddly, beautiful…  And she’s been spayed and is up-to-date on her shots.  The whole shebang.  This girl is simply fabulous.
What more could a girl ask for??  Well…  A family.  Olive needs, and deserves, a family of her own.
And as a special treat, Olive wants to be your valentine!!  The shelter is having a “PURR-fect Valentine Event”, in which all cat adoption fees are $25 off.  This means that through Monday the 14th, Olive’s adoption fee will be only $25.  Think of all the cat toys you can buy this girl with the savings!!

******
And lo and behold, it worked!!!
Fabulous, wonderful, mellow, sweet, loving, adorable Olive received queries from 3 people, and was adopted by a fantastic family on Saturday!!
Olive had been waiting for over 6 months.  Everyone who met her adored her, but nobody took her home.
And then, her "JUST RIGHT" family came into the picture...
It's just so wonderful.
And yet...  The place surely isn't going to be the same without her.
Go well, sweet Olive.  Remind  your new daddy to send updates!!

No Surprise... Marble Adopted!!

No big surprise here...

A young kitty as gorgeous as Marble wasn't going to last long in a shelter this time of year...  She went to her new home on Friday!

Congratulations Marble!!  And congratulations to your lucky new family!!!

Remember, there are still some really fantastic kitties still waiting at BACC.  Please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

Kitten Playtime: Saturday, Feb. 12th

Amber & Goldie are getting better and better at play...  It's incredible how fast they're growing.  Hardly look like little aliens anymore...  <g>

Here's Goldie playing with a new toy...

And Amber playing too!  She's definitely behind her sister developmentally, but she's delightfully feisty as well.

Goldie gazing adoringly at the beloved toy...

Amber getting ready to bat at her prey...

And Amber finding that her own foot is a great toy too!

These two beauties are spoken for, but never fear...  In the meantime, there are older kittens, young cats, and sophisticated adult felines waiting for families at BACC!  Please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.

Kitten Wrestling: Thurs. Feb. 10th

After dinner wrestling...

In the video, Amber is on the left and Goldie is on the right.  Amber is a fair amount smaller and more timid than her sister, but as you can see, she's no shrinking violet...  No need to worry about this little babe being able to stand up for herself!

Kitties are getting more and more playful!!

Growing Kittens...

Goldie and Amber have been here two days...  Amber has gained 2 oz. and Goldie 1 & 3/4.  Amazing how quickly they mature.  And their goopy eyes are getting better too now that I have more practice giving them their medicine.

Give 'em a week and they'll be completely different kittens.  They're only a couple of weeks younger than Poonai was when we got her, after all...

Here's sweet Goldie...

And sleepy Amber...

They LOVE their heating pad!!!

No surprise here...  Itty Bitty Kittens aren't easy, but they SURE ARE AWESOME!!!
