Introducing Serena...

Introducing Serena...

Serena is a pregnant kitty who's been at the shelter for a couple of weeks.  We're a bit worried about her, as she should have delivered by now and shows no signs of milk production.  Dr. Leslie's done some tests on her to check the viability of her pregnancy and is keeping a close eye.  We're hoping that she'll deliver healthy babies soon, but are prepared for the worst.  This is the nature of working with homeless animals.

Serena's a cranky girl, a reasonable response for an overdue mama.  But in general, she seems to be very sweet.

Assuming Serena is able to give birth to healthy kittens and care for them properly, she and her babies would do really well with a foster family.  I believe that babies who spend their formative weeks in a home are more connected to people and therefore more adoptable.

Our family's experience with Katy and her kittens is that it's EASY, because the mama does all the work.  We simply give her fresh water twice a day, make sure she's got a constant supply of food, keep her litter box clean, and love on the kittens as much as possible.  Katy also enjoys her cuddles, but she's very focused on her babies and less on her own needs these days.

If you're interested in fostering Serena and her kittens, please contact the shelter through their Petfinder page.  Hopefully there will be a lovely new family ready for fostering in a couple of weeks.
